About Samarth Nashik

Wherever we are, whoever we are, we can have a consensus on one common dream. It is the dream of seeing our country being prosperous and developed. And it is worth working for. Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth is founded on the same line of thinking. Many of us are well acquainted that our former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has put forward an ambitious development plan, which we refer as ‘India: vision 2020’. The very document is not a mere wishful thinking but a calculated plan taking into consideration opportunities and strengths we possess. We have to work hard and have planned efforts. So we need to create a common platform where people from all segments of the society would get a space. Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth is the medium to get them together through various activities.
A development plan should be envisioned and acted upon locally. It should therefore have a true representation of common people and local experts. ‘Samarth Nashik 2020   is a step towards the same goal.

Spread in the cities

Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth has already published vision documents for Pune, Thane and Solapur. Two volumes of ‘Samarth Pune 2020’ have been published. Pune Municipal Corporation sponsored the project and leaders from all political parties supported it. Pune team has proceeded to organize citizen’s forum (Lok-samsad) and invited all Lok-Sabha contestants to speak. Similarly Samarth Thane and Samarth Solapur were also published. Projects for Dhule, Ratnagiri, Mumbai, Bhopal are in the pipeline.

Nature of Proposed development plan

Many of our cities are growing fast. Just have a look on how they are growing and what is the growth pattern. We just know how to find transient solutions to the problems we are facing today. It is high time that we change our working models and mindsets.
So the question is what we can do at this juncture?

Samarth Nashik 2020 is a vision document where experts from various fields will analyze the present situation, reasons behind and articulate the solutions. We have a cream of experts available in every city. Many problems can be solved out locally, if these experts can be brought together to think aloud about development of the city.

We have selected five main sectors

1. Infrastructure- Energy, Road, Town Planning, Water, Public Transport, Waste Management, Construction.
   
   
2. Social and Cultural sector- Health, Education, Social Movement, Religion, Population.
   
   
3. Economy- Industry, Banking, Agriculture.
   
   
4. Administration/Leadership- Law, Order.
   
   
5. Environment

Besides expert opinion, the document will also contain views of common people and interviews of various organizations.

Methodology

• We have evolved following organizational structure to effectively carry on this mission.

• Editorial committee (names) will work on the content and take care of quality.

• Managing committee (names) will be responsible for the project as a whole and will take care of the activities.

• Advisory board

• Coordination Team- The documents shall contain statistical data, maps and photographs. Open discussion or workshop will be arranged to make the people aware about the project and solicit their active participation.

Appeal

We, the people, collectively form the society in which we live, so it is our duty to be aware of our needs as well as others’ needs and to contribute for the betterment of the same.

Samarth Nashik 2020; therefore appeals to you - the citizens to come forward with your suggestions and solutions.
